iCloud Backup, Google Drive Sync, and Data Export Are Here

One week after launch, we're shipping the feature people asked for most: cloud backup and data export.

Starting today, Atomic+ subscribers can back up their entire Atomic Fast history to iCloud (iOS) or Google Drive (Android), restore it on a new device, and export their raw data anytime.

What Gets Backed Up

Everything. Your backup includes:

  • Fasting sessions — every session, with start times, durations, metabolic phases, and goals
  • Meal logs and food entries — full nutrition data, macros, micronutrients, and timestamps
  • Food photos — every meal photo you've saved
  • Water logs — your complete hydration history
  • Saved meals — your custom meals and favorites
  • Profile and preferences — goals, schedules, theme, notification settings

Your backup is stored as a single structured file plus a photo directory — lightweight, portable, and versioned for future compatibility.

How It Works

iOS — iCloud Documents

On iOS, your data is stored in your personal iCloud container using Apple's iCloud Documents API. This means:

  • Apple handles encryption and security — your backup is protected by your Apple ID
  • No intermediary servers — data goes directly from your device to your iCloud storage
  • We can't see your data — it's in your personal iCloud space, not ours

Android — Google Drive

On Android, backups use Google Drive's hidden app-data folder (the drive.appdata scope). Your backup:

  • Isn't visible in your Drive file browser — it's stored in a private app-only directory
  • Is tied to your Google account — protected by your Google security settings
  • Is completely invisible to us — we never see or access your backup

Sync Controls

From Data & Privacy settings, you can:

  • Toggle backup on/off — one switch to enable automatic syncing
  • Sync Now — manually trigger a backup with a "last synced" timestamp
  • Restore from backup — pull your data back with one tap, with the backup date shown
  • Auto-sync — the app automatically backs up once every 24 hours when you open it

Restore on a New Device

If you sign in on a new device and a backup is found, Atomic Fast asks if you'd like to restore before onboarding. Your fasting history, meals, photos, and preferences come back — and you skip straight to the main app.

This works even if your Atomic+ subscription has expired. We believe your data is yours, and restoring it shouldn't require an active subscription.

Data Export

Atomic+ also unlocks full data export. From the Export Data screen, you can share:

  • Fasting Sessions (CSV) — session dates, durations, goals, and phases
  • Meals (CSV) — calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, sugar, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron
  • Water (CSV) — daily hydration logs
  • Full Database (JSON) — a complete structured export of all your data

Exports are generated locally and shared via your device's standard share sheet — save to Files, email, AirDrop, or any app you want.

Privacy by Design

We don't operate backup servers. Your data goes directly to Apple or Google's infrastructure — encrypted, secured by your personal account, and never accessible to us. When you delete your account in Atomic Fast, your cloud backup is deleted too.

iCloud Backup, Google Drive Sync, and Data Export are available now in Atomic Fast for iOS and Android. Requires Atomic+ subscription.
